Product Overview

The Makita DJV180Z 18v Jigsaw is a powerful yet compact cordless cutting tool, part of the extensive Makita LXT 18V Lithium-Ion battery system. Engineered for smooth and efficient operation, it boasts a top-handle design and numerous user-centric features such as tool-less blade change and a bright LED job light. Its adjustable orbital action and variable speed control allow for optimised cutting in a multitude of materials, including wood, metal, and aluminium. As a 'body only' product, the DJV180Z offers a cost-effective way to expand an existing 18V LXT kit, as it is supplied without a battery or charger.

Part No: DJV180Z(MAKPDJV180Z)

Features & Benefits
  • LXT Lithium-Ion Power: Utilises 18V LXT batteries (sold separately), offering a lightweight and high-power solution with extended run-time compared to older battery chemistries.
  • High-Speed Cutting: Delivers a maximum stroke speed of 2,600 strokes per minute (spm) for fast, powerful material removal.
  • Tool-Less Blade Change: Features a push-in lock system for quick and simple blade installation and removal without the need for additional tools.
  • 3-Stage Orbital Action: Includes three orbital settings plus straight cutting for use with various materials and applications, improving cutting efficiency and speed.
  • LED Job Light: Illuminates the cutting line, enhancing visibility and ensuring accurate cuts, especially in darker working conditions.
  • Ergonomic Design: Incorporates a rubberised handle grip for a more comfortable and firm hold, which helps to reduce operator fatigue.
  • Variable Speed Control: Speed is adjustable via a large, easy-to-operate trigger, which can be comfortably used even when wearing gloves.
  • Electric Brake: Provides increased user safety by quickly stopping the blade action when the trigger is released.
  • Soft Start Function: Ensures the blade starts smoothly, preventing sudden jolting or 'snagging' on the material for better control.
  • Die-Cast Base: Fitted with a heavy-duty die-cast base for greater durability and a solid feel during use.
  • Bevel Cutting: The base plate bevels 0° to 45° to the left and right for angled cuts, with a positive stop at 90°
  • Dust Management: Includes a dust blower function to clear the cutting line and a dust nozzle for connection to an external vacuum system.

FAQs
What should I look for when buying a Cordless Jigsaw?

Cordless Jigsaws are great when you need to make detailed or specific cuts in wood, but need to be mobile or don’t have easy access to a power source. When choosing a Cordless Jigsaw, consider what you’ll be using it for. A good rule of thumb is that as the material you’re cutting gets harder and/or thicker, the more power you’ll need. Speed, which is measured either in RPM (rotations per minute) or SPM (strokes per minute), will either be fixed or variable. A fixed speed jigsaw will provide the same level of output at all times, which might not be ideal. Some materials will scorch if cut by a very fast blade, while if you are scrolling as you cut, a slower speed is what you need. Therefore, using a variable speed jigsaw can be very helpful.

Which is better: brushless or brushed motors?

Brushed motors use carbon brushes to transfer power from the fixed part of the motor to the rotor. This creates a reliable and relatively inexpensive motor, but brushed motors do require regular maintenance, in order to either clean the brushes or replace them as they wear out. A brushless motor, by contrast, uses a magnet mounted on the rotor to generate the power and electrical switching to perform the function carried out by the brushes. The additional complexity of the motor’s working means that brushless motors are usually more expensive than brushed.
However, eliminating the brushes also eliminates internal friction and maintenance, meaning that brushless motors offer both increased power and a longer working life. Brushless motors also generate less heat and noise and so, on balance, are considered superior to brushed motors.

Which voltage should I choose?

Our range of Cordless Jigsaws starts with 12v machines, but the increased power and relative affordability of 18v tools means this has become the industry standard, particularly as the 18v machines offer much more power without a huge increase in tool size.
