DeWalt Batteries - Frequently Asked Question
How long do DeWalt batteries last?
DeWalt batteries have high-quality cells with a very low resistance. This means they are less likely to overheat and are not overloaded even when using more powerful tools. This allows for an increase in the autonomy of the battery and an increase in battery life.
But how long can you expect your batteries to last? As a very rough guide, properly stored batteries can last up to six years.
However, there are several factors that can affect the life of your DeWalt batteries, such as the charge state when the battery is stored and the conditions and temperature where the battery is placed.
To keep your DeWalt batteries working their best for as long as possible, we recommend that you:
- Always charge the battery after using a https://www.toolstoreuk.co.uk/power-tools/c119.
- Keep batteries stored at room temperature (around 15-20 degrees C).
- Avoid extremely cold weather conditions.
- Avoid too much contact with moisture. Although DeWalt batteries can handle some humidity and rain, direct moisture could be a problem. Lookout for P56-rated batteries for even better water resistance.
What types of batteries do DeWalt make?
Benefiting from DeWalt’s innovation and engineering, there are three key ranges: the XR 18v platform, the powerful FLEXVOLT range, and the impressive NEW Powerstack range.
DeWalt XR 18v
DeWalt’s XR 18V range is the go-to range for cordless power tools designed and engineered to meet the specific needs of demanding trades. From hammer drills to circular saws through to lawnmowers, the constantly expanding XR 18V range has got you covered.
DeWalt FLEXVOLT
The powerful DeWalt FLEXVOLT range is a convertible 18/54V battery, so is backwards compatible with your existing 18V DeWalt tools. The batteries automatically switch voltage when you change tools and can be used on DeWalt’s whole range of medium and high-capacity cordless power tools.
DeWalt POWERSTACK
DeWalt’s latest POWERSTACK platform is compatible with the full 18V XR DeWalt range of tools and chargers. Enjoy portable power that offers you longer runtime with less charges. Utilising DeWalt POWERSTACK technology, this battery delivers impressive power, excellent efficiency, and a long lifespan.
Can you use DeWalt batteries in tools?
DeWalt battery packs are designed specifically to fit DeWalt cordless power tools – everything from the battery to the charger are all made to fit perfectly. They are not designed to fit any other manufacturer’s power tool, and those other manufacturer’s tools are not made to accommodate DeWalt batteries.
With the different DeWalt ranges, the compatibility depends on the voltage – both the tool and the battery must operate on the same voltage.
The exception to this is DeWalt’s FLEXOLT range. FLEXVOLT batteries are compatible with DeWalt 54v and 18v tools and can be charged by 54v or 18v DeWalt chargers. FLEXVOLT tools require FLEXVOLT batteries to operate and are not compatible with DeWalt 18v batteries.
Is it OK to leave DeWalt batteries in the charger?
It is fine to leave your DeWalt batteries in the charger. DeWalt chargers have a maintenance mode that allows batteries to remain in the charger, maintaining a fully charged pack until you are ready to start work.
Do not completely discharge a battery. When you feel a loss of power from the tool, remove the battery and charge it. Do not tape the trigger to run down the battery.
Keep your batteries stored at room temperature and avoid extreme temperatures when you’re working. When batteries are being charged and discharged, a chemical reaction is taking place. If batteries are too hot or too cold, it could affect the lifespan of the battery.
Allow each individual cell to fully charge by placing the battery in the charger overnight or for a minimum of eight hours at room temperature.
