FAQs
Jigsaws are great when you need to make detailed or specific cuts in wood but need to be mobile or don’t have easy access to a power source. When choosing a Jigsaw, consider what you’ll be using it for. A good rule of thumb is that as the material you’re cutting gets harder and/or thicker, the more power you’ll need. Speed, which is measured either in RPM (rotations per minute) or SPM (strokes per minute), will either be fixed or variable. A fixed speed jigsaw will provide the same level of output at all times, which might not be ideal. Some materials will scorch if cut by a very fast blade, while if you are scrolling as you cut, a slower speed is what you need. Therefore, using a variable speed jigsaw can be very helpful.
The speed will be influenced by the power input; the higher the wattage, the higher the potential speed in terms of RPM / SPM.
Another thing to think about is the maximum cut depth; if working on larger work pieces you might want a tool which can cut as deeply as possible.
