Product Overview

The Makita DJV186Z 18v LXT Jigsaw is a streamlined, cordless cutting tool engineered for precision and agility. Powered by the renowned 18v Lithium-Ion battery platform, this unit features a top-handle "D" grip design that offers superior control and comfort during complex curved cuts or straight rip sawing. Its compact footprint and lightweight construction make it an excellent choice for work in restricted spaces, while the integrated electric brake ensures immediate blade stoppage for enhanced safety. With a stroke rate of up to 2,900 spm and a dedicated pendulum action, this machine balances rapid material removal with the delicacy required for fine finishing work across timber, metal, and synthetic materials.

Part No: DJV186Z(MAKPDJV186Z)

Features & Benefits
  • High-Performance Cutting: Delivers a maximum of 2,900 strokes per minute, allowing for efficient progress through various densities.
  • Triple Orbital Settings: Includes three distinct pendulum stages plus a straight-cut mode to optimise the aggressive nature of the cut based on the material.
  • Variable Speed Trigger: Allows the operator to modulate the speed instantly, providing total command over the blade for intricate starts and delicate finishes.
  • Precision Beveling: The sturdy base plate tilts up to 45 degrees both left and right, enabling accurate mitre and bevel cuts for joinery.
  • User Safety: Equipped with an electronic brake that halts the blade movement as soon as the trigger is released.
  • Ergonomic Handling: Features a slim, rubberised grip to reduce vibration and hand fatigue during long periods of operation.
  • Tool-Less Blade Change: Utilises a bayonet (T-shank) holder for rapid, secure blade swaps without the need for additional hand tools.
  • Dust Management: Designed with a dust extraction port to keep the workspace clear and the cut line visible when connected to a vacuum system.

FAQs
What should I look for when buying a Cordless Jigsaw?

Cordless Jigsaws are great when you need to make detailed or specific cuts in wood, but need to be mobile or don’t have easy access to a power source. When choosing a Cordless Jigsaw, consider what you’ll be using it for. A good rule of thumb is that as the material you’re cutting gets harder and/or thicker, the more power you’ll need. Speed, which is measured either in RPM (rotations per minute) or SPM (strokes per minute), will either be fixed or variable. A fixed speed jigsaw will provide the same level of output at all times, which might not be ideal. Some materials will scorch if cut by a very fast blade, while if you are scrolling as you cut, a slower speed is what you need. Therefore, using a variable speed jigsaw can be very helpful.

Which is better: brushless or brushed motors?

Brushed motors use carbon brushes to transfer power from the fixed part of the motor to the rotor. This creates a reliable and relatively inexpensive motor, but brushed motors do require regular maintenance, in order to either clean the brushes or replace them as they wear out. A brushless motor, by contrast, uses a magnet mounted on the rotor to generate the power and electrical switching to perform the function carried out by the brushes. The additional complexity of the motor’s working means that brushless motors are usually more expensive than brushed.
However, eliminating the brushes also eliminates internal friction and maintenance, meaning that brushless motors offer both increased power and a longer working life. Brushless motors also generate less heat and noise and so, on balance, are considered superior to brushed motors.

Which voltage should I choose?

Our range of Cordless Jigsaws starts with 12v machines, but the increased power and relative affordability of 18v tools means this has become the industry standard, particularly as the 18v machines offer much more power without a huge increase in tool size.
