Who are the Kreg Tool Company?
The original Kreg Jig was invented by Craig Summerfield in 1989 in response to the following question from his wife, Kathie:
How do you attach a face frame to a cabinet so the joint can be hidden from view?
Craig invented a U-shaped single-hole jig for pocket-hole joinery. It was made from aluminium and sold at specialist Woodworking Shows for around $100 (US). It was fast, easy to use and the first jig of its kind, so quickly became popular. “Craig’s Jig” became the “Kreg Jig” and the company grew from there. Craig’s son Todd runs the business today.
In 2000, the K2000 jig was launched. This new version of the patented Kreg tool was made of injection-moulded plastic, making it cheaper to buy and more durable, as well speeding up the manufacturing process. This has helped Kreg to become the leader in pocket-hole technology and the company – which is now 20% employee owned - now has a huge product range.

The flagship of the Kreg Jig range is the K5 Jig Master System. Described by the Chicago Tribune newspaper as “the best of the best”, this kit combines a market-leading jig with premium accessories. The Tribune’s review suggested that this product included "everything you need for an enormous variety of furniture building".
