FAQs
Cordless Sanders take a lot of hassle out of tasks that, if done by hand, would potentially be laborious and time-consuming. It’s important to choose the type of Sander that meets your needs; our range includes Belt Sanders, which are generally used to prepare wood and other materials for finishing and Random Orbit Sanders, which use a fast cyclical motion to remove material from your workpiece and are designed to be easy to use on flat surfaces.
Once you know what kind of machine you need, what features should you be looking out for? One key feature is the tool’s No Load Speed; this tells you how fast it operates and is usually measured in revolutions per minute (RPM). Think about the kind of work you’ll be doing; a lower RPM rate gives you more control over the end result but can mean tasks take longer. You’ll also want to check how the paper is attached to the tool as “quick fit” attachments will generally make life easier. Finally, check whether a dust collection system is part of the sander, as this kind of work can generate a lot of debris.
Brushed motors use carbon brushes to transfer power from the fixed part of the motor to the rotor. This creates a reliable and relatively inexpensive motor, but brushed motors do require regular maintenance, in order to either clean the brushes or replace them as they wear out. A brushless motor, by contrast, uses a magnet mounted on the rotor to generate the power and electrical switching to perform the function carried out by the brushes. The additional complexity of the motor’s working means that brushless motors are usually more expensive than brushed.
Our range starts with 18v Sanders, which have developed as the industry standard for DIY enthusiasts and professionals alike.
