What should I look for when buying a Planer Thicknesser?

Planer Thicknessers are ideal if you need to ‘even out’ a board (usually wood) so the thickness of it is consistent throughout, or you’re looking to enhance a board’s finish by removing impurities. To select a Planer Thicknesser that best meets your needs, the first thing to consider is the power it needs. For example, if the site where it will be used is on 110v power, you’ll need a 110v machine; fortunately ToolStore UK has Planer Thicknessers which work with both 110v and 240v power.

Then, think about the size of board your new Thicknesser can work with; there will be a maximum width, which can be as low as 100 mm and as high as 300 mm.

The next thing to consider is what the maximum depth of cut of the tool is. This may vary, depending on whether you’re using the machine for planning or thicknessing and there is a lot of variation between different models.

Another thing to consider is the Feed Rate; the higher the feed rate, the faster a board can be passed through the tool, which is worth thinking about if you work under time constraints.
