FAQs
Cordless Recip Saws are great tools for people who need to make rapid cuts through various materials while on a jobsite. The push and pull motion or reciprocation which gives these saws their name makes this kind of saw both powerful and adaptable. Picking the right Recip Saw is about balancing the weight and power of the machine with the kind of work it will be doing. As a rule of thumb, more powerful machines tend to have larger batteries and are often heavier, so if the saw is going to be used for short bursts of work above shoulder height, a lower voltage model might be a sensible choice. By contrast, if you regularly cut larger, thicker workpieces, then you might want something with more power.
Another key thing to consider is the cutting speed your tool provides, as the faster the blade moves, the better the cut. Faster tools also offer more control to their operator. ToolStore UK’s range of Cordless Recip Saws includes tools which provide up to 3,000 strokes per minute.
The stroke length offered by the tool is also worth considering. This indicates how far a single forward stroke of the saw travels. The longer the stroke length, the faster the cut. Longer stroke lengths also help saw blades to last longer.
Brushed motors use carbon brushes to transfer power from the fixed part of the motor to the rotor. This creates a reliable and relatively inexpensive motor, but brushed motors do require regular maintenance, in order to either clean the brushes or replace them as they wear out. A brushless motor, by contrast, uses a magnet mounted on the rotor to generate the power and electrical switching to perform the function carried out by the brushes. The additional complexity of the motor’s working means that brushless motors are usually more expensive than brushed.
However, eliminating the brushes also eliminates internal friction and maintenance, meaning that brushless motors offer both increased power and a longer working life. Brushless motors also generate less heat and noise and so, on balance, are considered superior to brushed motors.
Our range of Cordless Recip Saws starts with 12v machines, but for professionals who need the extra power required for the most challenging workpieces, we also provide Makita’s new 40v LXT range and Saws from the DeWalt 54v Flexvolt range. Whatever sort of Recip Saw you need, ToolStore UK has the right machine for you.
