Holesaws are mounted onto power drills using an arbor and used to cut large holes into workpieces without cutting up the core material. They can make larger holes more quickly than a standard drill bit and use less power to do so.

Some brands include the cutting depth instead of working length in their product specifications but both terms will tell you the same thing.
