However, there are several factors that can affect the life of your DeWalt batteries, such as the charge state when the battery is stored and the conditions and temperature where the battery is placed.

Can you use DeWalt batteries in tools?

DeWalt battery packs are designed specifically to fit DeWalt cordless power tools – everything from the battery to the charger are all made to fit perfectly. They are not designed to fit any other manufacturer’s power tool, and those other manufacturer’s tools are not made to accommodate DeWalt batteries.

With the different DeWalt ranges, the compatibility depends on the voltage – both the tool and the battery must operate on the same voltage.

The exception to this is DeWalt’s FLEXOLT range. FLEXVOLT batteries are compatible with DeWalt 54v and 18v tools and can be charged by 54v or 18v DeWalt chargers. FLEXVOLT tools require FLEXVOLT batteries to operate and are not compatible with DeWalt 18v batteries.

Is it OK to leave DeWalt batteries in the charger?

It is fine to leave your DeWalt batteries in the charger. DeWalt chargers have a maintenance mode that allows batteries to remain in the charger, maintaining a fully charged pack until you are ready to start work.

Do not completely discharge a battery. When you feel a loss of power from the tool, remove the battery and charge it. Do not tape the trigger to run down the battery.

Keep your batteries stored at room temperature and avoid extreme temperatures when you’re working. When batteries are being charged and discharged, a chemical reaction is taking place. If batteries are too hot or too cold, it could affect the lifespan of the battery.

Allow each individual cell to fully charge by placing the battery in the charger overnight or for a minimum of eight hours at room temperature.
