For use with 18v cordless compact saws, the Bosch S 2013 AWP Precision for Fibre Insulation Reciprocating Saw Blade features a 1/2 inch universal shank. It delivers precise and clean plunge cuts in special materials, while its extra-wide body (45 mm) and extra-thick gauge material (1.5 mm) prevent bending and provide exact cuts at accurate angles. Moreover, the blades sharp precision-ground serrated knife edge achieves tear-free results, while a ground pointed tip enables plunge cuts. Made of HCS (high carbon steel), this reciprocating saw blade is appropriate for cutting fibre insulation materials. The extra-long length of 400 mm provides a cutting capacity of up to 350 mm.

First, ensure that the blade(s) you’re thinking about buying are suitable for the kind of material you’re cutting. Some are designed specifically for working with wood and others for cutting metal. Then you have ‘all-rounder’ blades which can get through various different material types.

Another consideration is the number of Teeth Per Inch (TPI). The higher the TPI, the smoother – and slower – your cut will be. The TPI of individual blades can range from 2 (for rough cuts in wood) up to 24.

Finally, think about the blade length you might need. Shorter blades tend to be very strong and provide straighter and squarer cuts, while longer blades have more flexibility, making them useful for flush cuts. As a rule of thumb, your blade should be longer than the cut you need to make.
