Make Light Work
The nights are drawing in and the mornings are a little darker, so that means that this is the time of year in which our range of lighting products comes into its own. LED lighting solutions
LED lights are made up of Light Emitting Diodes which are considered to be more efficient and better for the environment. LEDs have a better quality of light distribution and focus light in one direction as opposed to other types of lighting which waste energy by emitting light in all directions, often illuminating areas where light isn’t required (such as the ceiling). In addition, LED lights are up to 80% more efficient than traditional lighting such as fluorescent and incandescent lights. 95% of the energy in LEDs is converted into light and only 5% is wasted as heat. By contrast, fluorescent lights convert 95% of energy to heat and only 5% into light! LED lights also draw much less power than traditional lighting; a typical 84 watt fluorescent can be replaced by a 36 watt LED to give the same level of light.
Take the Makita DML805 LED Worklight, for example. It contains 20 0.5 watt LED lights for bright, even coverage of your work area. It has two modes of operation: Low mode will provide up to 17 hours of illumination at 450 Lumens using an 18v 5ah LXT Battery. High mode offers a dazzling 750 Lumens of light for up to 8.5 hours with the same battery. However, this versatile bit of kit will also run on 14.4v or mains power; we can offer you a 110v version, or a 240v worklight.
A budget-friendly alternative to the Makita DML805 is the Defender E206010 20W Rechargeable LED Light + Stand. This powerful and easily transportable piece of kit delivers a 4000k cool white light which can be angled exactly where you need it. It has Aluminium and ABS housing which has been drop tested to 1 metre so you know it can withstand hard knocks. It is supplied with a charging cable.
The Defender range also includes a floor light which is available in 240v corded or rechargeable options.
Another brand with an impressive range of LED lighting solutions is Sealey, whose products include the LED108C LED Rechargable Floodlight. This impressive item features 108 super-bright LEDs which will generate 585 lumens of light. It has an operating time of 3.5 hours and has a built-in 7.4v battery. A mains charger and a 12v in-car charger are included, meaning that that you can take this floodlight with you wherever your work takes you.
Headlamps & Head Torches
Perhaps you’re working on your own, or in a restricted space? Check out the Stanley FatMax Headlamp. This hard-working piece of personal equipment can provide up to 9 hours of operation and 80 Lumens of light; all you need is 3 AAA batteries! If you need light at close quarters, or on the move, this is a great choice. It has a shatter-proof lens within its rotating head and is impact resistant up to 2 metres.
Alternatively, the Trend TCH/HA/H10 LED Head Torch offers 115 Lumens of light and a 72 metre beam. It has 4 modes of operation and an innovative, comfortable design. The high-grade, anodised aluminium body has been drop-tested to 1 metre, making this a torch you can rely on.
Festoon Lights
If you need a method of lighting up your conservatory that you could also take into the garden, Festoon Lights could be a stylish but practical solution. Also known as ‘café lights’ or ‘party lights’, Festoon Lights are traditionally sets of large bulbs on a garland and when hung loosely from a ceiling or on a fence, they can add light and colour both inside and out. Festoon lights can also be a useful solution when working outdoors on a building site or other project. The Defender E89816 110v 22m Encap LED Festoon is a great example of an industrial lighting option. It includes 10 LED lighting modules at 2m intervals and can be installed quickly. The efficient LEDs provide both great light output and low running costs.
